Fortunately, we created StepsWeb with this is mind and we purposefully designed StepsWeb to collect only the essential information necessary for it to function.

Best practice measures to protect your data
Data privacy is a constantly evolving field and we make it our business to stay abreast of current developments and apply them to StepsWeb.
We only require the essentials
In particular;
We have no chat pages.
We don’t require the student to have an email address.
Students only need a login name (which can be a pseudonym) and a password.
Student date of birth is optional, but useful.
Any data which is collected is purely to enhance the use of StepsWeb.
Personalised word lists, sentences, and images can be created, but they are automatically subjected to a moderation check.
Annual Penetration Test
We run an annual penetration test of the StepsWeb database by an independent third party testing company just to make sure that your data is secure. A ‘penetration test’ is an authorised simulated attack on our software to evaluate its security.
Computer System Security
StepsWeb is hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and we carefully protect the computer systems which can access AWS. This includes alarm systems and cameras both inside and outside our offices.
Staff Security Awareness
We expect the highest standards from our staff when accessing any part of StepsWeb or its database.
All of our staff undertake annual data privacy awareness training.
We do a Police check on all our staff, just to be sure.
All of our staff make a firm commitment to upheld all the principles of our Privacy Policy.
We use all the current digital security measures such as two factor authentication, and automatic time outs on computers with password protection.
Secure Data Back-up
StepsWeb employs the usual protection of running mirrored database. This means that a duplicate of the data is maintained so that a seamless restore can be activated if necessary. We also create a complete back up on AWS, in case the mirroring system ever fails.
